I truly love my dog ... like a lot. I'm also always fascinated by imagining what goes through her mind on any given day. The following is my interpretation of what I think a typical day is like for Honey, my eight year-old yellow labrador (who still thinks she's a puppy). She may bark – a ton– but I would not trade her for the world. She is, quite frankly, the best dog I could ask for.
6:00 am: Awake. What's everyone else doing? I'm bored. Where is everyone? I'm going to go find them. Why are their doors closed?! Wake up! I'm starting to get annoyed. Wake up!
6:15 am: Finally everyone wakes up. Potty time!
6:30 am: First nap time.
7:00 am: I'm a little hungry ... might as well go annoy everyone. Bark, bark, bark, bark, bark.
8:00 am: FINALLY. Breakfast time.
8:10 am: Mmm, pool water. I love that stuff! Who needs the dish anyway?
8:15 am – 11:00 am: Nap #2.
11:00 am – 11:17 am: Who wants to play with me?! Oh, no one? OK, I'll just tear apart this stuffed triceratops.
11:30 – 12:00 pm: Sunbathe.
12:00 pm: What's Ryan doing? I'm going to go see.
12:15 pm: Ryan gets tired of petting me.
12:16 pm: Jump on his bed. So comfy.
12:17 pm – 2:11 pm: Nap #3.
2:11 pm: Is that a car?! Run to the door – BARK! Check the front window – BARK! Make sure the patio is clear – BARK!
2:13 pm - 3:00 pm: Nap #4.
3:00 pm: Yawn. Is it dinner time yet?
3:01 pm – 4:15 pm: Annoy everyone by barking and pawing at anything that moves.
4:15 pm: It worked! Dinner time.
4:30 pm – 6:30 pm: The fifth nap – and by far the best – nap of the day. Nothing like some sleep on a full belly.
6:47 pm: I hear another dog!
6:48 pm – 6:55 pm: Bark incessantly. Why does everyone always get mad at me for that?
7:30 pm: Family time! The humans are eating, but maybe if I lay by their feet ever-so-sweetly they'll drop something for me.
8:00 pm: No scraps.
8:30 pm: What a day! I'm beat. Good night!
(Obviously I am aware that inter-sparingly throughout this process Honey attends Mother Nature's lavatory and her water dish, but I figured those trips did not need to be mentioned.)
Well, there you have it! Just another day in the life of the most lovable dog in the world, Honey Bear Guerin.
